My Plots
In Patois, a dialectal variant of the Franco-Provençal language spoken in the Aosta Valley, La Plantze means «terrace».
«Terraces» are the vineyards that occupy my working days, plots of land often held up by dry stone walls, typical of the Aosta Valley, which climb up even very steep slopes, at altitudes ranging from 600 to 1000 meters.
Each terrace is a parcel from which a few hundred bottles are obtained, the result of daily efforts to reach the vineyards and conduct a careful winegrowing, capable of responding to the challenges of the mountain environment.
The terraces I cultivate are «parcels» also because they are “parceled” within them, which means that they are divided into rows of different vines, according to the ancient farming custom to plant several varieties in the same plot to promote their ecosystem resilience, or their survival.
